Millie is a professional horticulturist, garden designer, writer and broadcaster. An innovative gardener with an unconventional approach, Millie specialises in creative construction, sourcing local, low-cost materials and using plants in unusual ways. Author of The Thrifty Gardener; a practical guide to building the garden you want with whatever you’ve got, Millie aims to get everyone growing!
Millie joined the Gardening Australia Team behind the scenes, as a researcher and writer in 2009. For the last five years, she has worked as the program’s senior researcher. Millie began her career studying horticulture in the Gippsland region, in South-East Victoria. A move to Melbourne saw her work for one of Australia’s premier independent garden centres. In recognition of her passion for both plants and people, she became the nursery’s media representative. It was this role that led to her first radio appearance as a guest on Jane Edmanson’s long-running program, The Big Backyard on 3AW. Over the last decade she has contributed regularly to this program, as well as ABC Local Radio and RN, and community radio RRR and 3CR.
